Advisory services

We provide an advisory service to 38 county associations of local councils (CALCs), giving responses to finance-related questions such as whether VAT can be reclaimed, when expenses are taxable, how things should be recorded in the accounts, what responses councils should give to the auditor and similar queries.  We provide advice under contract to the CALC, who then advise the council involved for free, as part of their membership.  Typically, we respond within 3 working days, unless the issue is particularly complex. We handle around 500 CALC queries a year.

The same service is available for a fee to individual councils in other counties.  We also provide direct advisory services to several larger councils.
